What can I say about my Bapa, our dear Heavenly Father? He is deep and quiet, a being of thought and patience. He is tender and so sweet, there is a gentle vulnerability to His Arms, open wide for hugs that will never come from an ungrateful humanity. But you and I, beloved child of God, we will hold Him for all of them.
As the vision and planning center of the Trinity, He is uncontainably creative and one of His favorite things to do is to write eternal “happily-ever-afters” for His beloved ones. Our mortal history may have been finished at the cross, but our eternities are always ongoing. He takes our least inclinations, our hidden desires, the things we don’t even know about ourselves yet, and writes joy– beyond all we can ask, think, or imagine.
His favorite creative activity though, is collaboration. How He LOVES creating with us, I can’t describe the deep pleasure He gets from it. I think if we all understood how happy it makes Him, we would ditch the fear and get to work just to please Him. Sometimes, when I sing in the Spirit or write, I can feel His Heart reaching for mine with deep thrums of Love.
How good and loving He is, how He delights in us. His heart is so beautiful that it makes me want to shelter and protect it, which may sound a little funny: a tiny mortal standing guard over the infinitely mighty heart of all-powerful Father God. But He never rejects such an impulse from us as silly, just holds us a little tighter.
I know there is wrath– part of which is unappeased love– and that He is just. He is all-powerful, of that there is no doubt! But oh, His justice is protective, there is kindness in it too, and mercy. He is the One that stands up for the weak, the downtrodden, the oppressed. His strength is always, always mobilized in the service of Love.
Now here’s the magnificent part: Abba is infinite. He will likely have given you deep glimpses of Himself that I’ve never seen. I would be honored if you would share some way He’s revealed Himself to you, so that I can know Him better, too. When we bring our pieces together it’s an exponential gift, a foretaste of Heaven!
